WHY PEOPLE CHOOSE
ARMOUR METAL ROOFING!
Metal roofing is becoming the most
popular choice in roofing today.
Not only for it's appealing appearance,
energy efficiency or long life.
But most important is it's ability to
withstand the most severe elements.
It's been proven that metal roofs when
installed properly can withstand up to
220 MPH winds.
Metal roofing is generally more
expensive than shingles, but in the long
run they are cheaper, especially with
new insurance deductible guidelines. In
the past, it didn't matter if your roof
blew off, just a small deductible and
get a new roof. Now people are paying
for the past.
TYPES OF METAL ROOFING
The cheapest: 29ga Armour Rib (Multi
This panel was originally used for
agriculture because of its wide coverage
and many ribs for rigidity and ease of
installment. People then started using
it on homes. The panel is an exposed
fastener system. The screws are on the
outside of the panel in plain sight. You
are relying on a rubber washer to keep
your roof water tight. The biggest
problem with this roof is most
installers over tighten the screws and
the washer wears out quickly. The other
problem is it has a paint finish called
siliconized polyester. Even though most
manufactures warranty the paint for 40
years, it starts to fade very fast and
uneven becoming an eye sore. Starting
March 1st, we are going to start coating
all of our steel with Kynar 500. It's
the Cadillac of paint. It keeps its
luster through its whole life. The cost
for coating with Kynar is about 12% more
but you don't have to worry about your
roof looking cheap after a few years.
Another popular type of exposed fastener
system is called 5V Crimp also started
out on barns and houses more than a
hundred years ago. This roof is mostly
used around the coast . This will also
be coated with Kynar starting in March.
The best and my favorite type of metal
roofing is standing seam. It is a
concealed fastener system. The screws
are installed either in nail strip or a
clip that is snapped or seamed over with
the next panel. There are many different
types of this roof.
